Tips for Staying Young/Happy

I just read this in the Family Life Society newsletter.  I thought I’d share it with you.  Although it’s on how to stay young, I think it’s also a useful tool on how to stay happy.

Tips on How to Stay Young/Happy!

  1. Throw out non-essential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That’s why you pay them.
  2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
  3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computers, crafts, gardening whatever! Never let the brain be idle. “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop! And the devil’s name is Alzheimer”.
  4. Enjoy simple things.
  5. Laugh often… Long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
  6. The tears happen. Endure grief and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life is ourselves. So be ALIVE while you are alive.
  7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
  8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
  9. Don’t take guilt trips. Take trips to the mall or even to another country. Avoid heading to where guilt lies.
  10. Tell the people whom you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

Finally, friends, always remember. Life is not measured by the number of breaths that we take but by the moments that take our breath away.

Hello blog, I forgot about you.

Ack. Going to the NuffNang’s Blogger’s Symposium with an outdated blog?  Sheesh.

Ice skate at Singapore’s first artificial outdoor rink

Just passing on this information.

Tasmin would LOVE it. She’s always going on and on about going ice-skating, but the only rink open now is in Kallang and sooooo faaaaar…

Please note that I’m not part of this group (yet!) so I’ve only got the same details below. Please call them if you need more info. I’ve left the number at the bottom.

Ice skate at Singapore’s first artificial outdoor rink

A first in Singapore, Stamford American International School (SAIS) and the Singapore Ice Hockey Association (SIHA) are jointly installing a temporary, synthetic ice rink on the SAIS campus for the sports community and public to try out.

The ‘ice’ consists of interlocking squares of white plastic, which has been sprayed with a mixture of silicone and water to allow normal ice skates to slide across the surface.

Interested members of the public are welcome to visit SAIS to experience the best of ice skating without the chill. Due to limited capacity of half-hour slots spread over two weekends, pre-registration is required and is confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis.

We’re moving

In the midst of the madness that is Christmas, and then a week later, the start of a new school year, the Augustins are moving house.

I am freaking out.

I alternate between “aiyah just let the movers come and pack everything lah” to “gosh we can save so much if we pack ourselves” and “why do we have so much clutter?? throwthrowthrow!!”

So no open house this time, not til Chinese New Year.

I’m gonna win!

I just took part in a contest that if I win, would help us with our Christmas shopping. Can you help please? All you need to do is go to this link in Facebook:

and click the “like” button next to the photo. The photo with the most “likes” that week wins $500 in Robinsons vouchers! That will go into clothes and presents for the 6 of us. We will make it go a long way. Thank you!
